There's a class of furniture that goes beyond the usual definitions of style. The best new Modern looks, for example, combine their signature clean lines with wonderful, unexpected touches, broadening their appeal to a much larger audience. The Ebonite bedroom features chests and armoires surrounded by a beveled "frame" — actually extended legs wrapped around the entire piece. It's a subtle detail that's also elegant and intelligent, all qualities of classic design.
In the Gedeon dining room, Modernist simplicity and Neoclassical motifs (especially in the chair backs) merge in a formal but unstuffy look that appeals to traditionalists and non-traditionalists alike. Both groups are striking enough to make a statement in an empty room, but who wants an empty room? Consider them, instead, as a beautiful foundation for your own individual style, adding accessories for the look and attitude that's perfect for you. The Eboniste bedroom is a perfect example of the affinity between Modern and Eastern design - primarily because both styles place great emphasis on harmony of line and proportion. This group works beautifully with matte black, sage or celadon accessories to evoke a serene mood and good Feng Shui. Asian art, black and white photography and Oriental or Contemporary carpets are also perfect. Simple lamps can be chosen to complement accessories or the colors and motifs of rugs and bed linens.
